Edgar Cassell, Jr., 96, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Monday, April 17, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 AM in Mt. Zion Twp. Cemetery, Mt. Zion. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials in Edgar’s honor may be made to: Macon County Honor Guard.
Edgar was born March 4, 1927, in Decatur, IL, the son of Edgar, Sr. and Katie (Spillman) Cassell. He married Thelma Virginia Lowe on January 6, 1951 in Decatur, IL. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2010.
Edgar proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Past Commander and Life Member of the American Legion Castle Williams Post #105, also serving on the Macon County Honor Guard for many years. In 1983, he retired from Caterpillar, Inc. as the Plant Layout Supervisor after 28 ½ years of service and was a Past Chairman of the American Welding Society. Edgar enjoyed antique tractors and attending antique tractor shows.
Edgar is survived by his children: Brenda Wilson and husband Gary of Galesburg and Bruce Cassell and wife Debbie of Decatur; grandchildren: Christina Ogan and husband Charles of Warrenville, Michael Wilson (fiancée Amber Cecil) of Galesburg, Brian Cassell and wife Amy of Maryville, TN, Blake Cassell and wife Krystle of Decatur, Katie Cassell of Decatur, and Toby Mendenall of Florida; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma; stepson, Jack Mendenall (daughter-in-law Sandy); grandson, Todd Mendenall; siblings: William Cassell, Mary Kopetz, Beulah Wiedner, Audrey McCannon, George Cassell, and Margaret May.
