Obituary for Ronald Finley
Ronald D. Finley, 89, of Oakley passed away peacefully on March 16, 2023 at his home.
Funeral service will be 12:00 PM, Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation will be 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
Ronald was born December 11, 1933 in Vera, IL, the son of Kern E. and Connie B. (O’Dell) Finley. He married Louise I. Acklin on January 24, 1954 in Decatur. Ronald worked for Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 43 years until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking and working with his hands and even built two homes. Some of his ideas were even patented by the railroad. He also enjoyed rebuilding and overhauling cars. Ronald thoroughly enjoyed listening to gospel music and spent time fishing and camping. When he was younger, he enjoyed shooting trap. Ronald was a member and deacon at Stone Street Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louise; daughter, Connie P. Finley-Drury and husband, Ben of Athens; sons: Aaron D. Finley of Mt. Zion and Leon W. Finley of Decatur; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Finley of Missouri.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Finley; sisters: Leona Decker, Edith Mulvihill, Marilyn Boliek and Delores Semelka; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Finley.
