Obituary for Rudolph Descaro

Rudolph “Rudy” Descaro, 94, of Decatur, passed away March 20, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM, Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 PM at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, with military honors by the US Air Force and Macon County Honor Guard.

Rudy was born November 21, 1928 in Detroit, MI, the son of Rudolph and Katherine (Zubal) Descaro. He became an orphan with two brothers, Melvin and Ramon and sister, Anita, when their mother died at age 33 in 1937 from pneumonia. He and one brother lived on a farm in foster care from 1937 – 1946. He graduated from High School in Las Vegas, NV in 1947. He enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served our country from 1948-1952. He married Margie L. Senters in 1950 and they became parents of 8 beautiful children – Norman, Becky, Donna, Shirley, Mary, John, Carol, and Beverly who all attended St. Thomas School and all graduated from Stephen Decatur High. He joined the US Postal Service as a clerk and worked there for 26 years before retiring.

He married again in 1982 to Mary Kay Pannek and went to work as a custodian for Central Christian Church for 21 years. Mary Kay passed away in 2019. His favorite hobby was searching for Indian Arrowheads. He also liked working on cars.

Rudy is survived by his children: Donna Mochel of Forsyth, Shirley Hensley of Decatur, Mary Descaro of Mesa, AZ, John (Jill) Descaro of Decatur, Carol (Dave) Tucker of Decatur, and Beverly (Jim) Baity of Macon; grandchildren: Heather, Zachary, Jason, Gene, Dana, Brena, Niki, Jim, Darrin and Sarah; great-grandchildren: Ava, Sofia, Austin, Kyle, Tyler, Grant, Graham, Julia and Grace; and sister, Anita of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Kay Descaro; son, Norman; daughter, Becky; brothers: Melvin and Ramon; ex wife, Margie Descaro; son-in-law, Albert Hensley; grandson, Phillip Mochel
